Permit Application Process
The application for a permit for Flood Plain Development is a joint application shared between the Iowa DNR's Flood Plain Program, the DNR's Sovereign Lands Program and the Army Corps of Engineers 404 program. While there is one main application form, there are some different information requirements that must be included to process the Flood Plain permitting part of the application.

Three copies of the Joint Application Form with all required information must be submitted as follows:

Submit 1 copy to the appropriate Army Corps of Engineers District Office:

US Army Engineer District

The DNR will process applications in the order received. If an application is submitted that does not contain the required information, the DNR will mail the application back to the applicant with an explanation of what is missing. An application will not be processed until it is complete.

Even if a permit is not needed, you may want to submit the Jurisdiction Determination to the DNR to receive written confirmation that the permit is not needed.
