Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park

Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park is nestled in the rolling landscape between Des Moines and Indianola. The area was once the site of a coal mine and transformed into a state park in 2004. Summerset is a quiet destination for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy fishing, hiking and biking.

PLAN YOUR VISIT

Bike on the two-mile, paved scenic bike loop. This bike loop connects with the 12-mile Summerset bike trail connecting the nearby towns of Carlisle and Indianola.

Hike through Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park and admire the quiet scenery. Banner has multiple trails perfect for hiking.

Fish in the two lakes for channel catfish, largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie. Both lakes have single-lane boat ramps and parking. Motor regulations are for any size motor at “no wake” speed.

Practice shooting skills at the nearby Banner Shooting Range, managed by the DNR. The range is adjacent to the park and a popular destination for gun and archery shooting. The renovated range has sheltered shooting benches and a hard surface parking lot. Find more information on the DNR’s shooting range web page.
