Decorah District Streams Northeast Continuing mild winter weather has made for pleasant late morning and afternoon fly fishing outings. Sub-surface trout have been taken on Copper Johns, Olive Wooly Buggers and Light Spruces. Rising winter trout have recently been taken on small midge patterns, Thread Wraps and Griffith's Gnats. Our small amount of northeast Iowa snowfall provides for fairly easy streamside walking. 02/16 11:00

Lake Hendricks Northeast Lake Hendricks has 10-12 inches of ice. Best time to fish is morning and evening. Waxworms are the bait of choice. Fish are still hanging around the bottom of the lake and are in about 8 feet of water. 02/16 11:00

Lake Meyer Northeast Watch out for springs on the lake. They are beginning to open and the ice around them is thin. Anglers are finding fish in 6 to 7ft. of water but catches are spotty. Some deeper water is also producing fish. 02/16 11:00

Manchester District Streams Northeast Trout streams remain in excellent condition here in the N.E. District. Snow loss has been gradual which has made for good fishing conditions. 02/16 08:24
Mississippi River Pool 10 Northeast Ice thickness is 8-10 in most places but recent warm sunny weather is beginnig to weaken the ice. The warm temeratures this week may create unsafe dark ice and deteriorating shoreline conditions. 02/16 10:59
Mississippi River Pool 10 Northeast Approximately 10 inches of ice exists in most areas and Johnson Slough in the Sny Magill area is still accessible but use caution with the upcoming warm sunny days. Ambrough Slough has has reports of fair panfishing success. Bussey Lake has some water on top of the ice . Use caution along the shoreline and spring areas. Anglers have been able to access the tailwaters at the Lynxville boat ramp. 02/16 10:59

Mississippi River Pool 11 Northeast Although ice fishing opportunities still exist in Pool 11 on Mud Lake and Sunfish Lake, warm sunny weather may weaken ice. Caution should be used along shorelines particularly if trying to get to Zollicoffer. Some anglers have been boating from Guttenberg over to ice fish in Swift slough with some success. The DNR and City ramps are open in Guttenberg. 02/16 10:59

Mississippi River Pool 13 Northeast Tailwater stage at Bellevue is stable at 5.2 feet. Boats can launch from the City Ramp and at the DNR ramp. Ice fishing is limited, please review ice safety tips before venturing out on ice. 02/22 08:36
Mississippi River Pool 13 Northeast Bluegill - Fair: Michelson's landing in lower Pool 13 continues to have some decent ice fishing. Please take care as ice is getting marginal in many places. 02/22 08:36
Mississippi River Pool 13 Northeast Sauger - Good: Angers are catching small sauger in the tailwaters using a three way rig with a minnow or a jig and minnow. A lot of fish are being caught but many are small. A boat can be launched in the tailwater but ice flows from above the dam may hinder navigation a bit. 02/22 08:36
Mississippi River Pool 14 Northeast Open water conditions persist in the Tailwaters of Pools 12 through 15. Limited backwater fishing has been occurring, but please take care as ice is marginal to support people in many places. 02/22 08:36
Mississippi River Pool 14 Northeast Tailwater is completely open, but skim ice may hamper launching Tailwater stage is 4.3 and stable at Fulton Illinois. Limited ice fishing was reported as ice is in poor condition in many locations. 02/22 08:36

Black Hawk District Farm Ponds Northwest Anglers were reporting good catches of bluegill, crappie, and largemouth bass at farm ponds in the Woodbury County area. Small jigs, any color, baited with a wax worm were working. Make sure to use a light set up. Ice thickness was ranging from 2 to 6 inches. 02/16 10:42

Brushy Creek Lake Northwest 12 inches of ice was reported off the campground earlier in the week, with 6 to 8 inches of ice reported elsewhere. 8.5 to 9 inch crappie were being caught. Ice conditions are not good out in the middle of the lake. 02/16 10:34

Clear Lake Northwest Ice thickness is 6 to14 inches. Yellow bass are biting on jigging spoons tipped with a minnow or cut bait. Anglers are having success fishing in 8 to 12 feet of water out from the state dock on the north shore of the main lake. A few keeper walleyes are being caught using the same method. The best bite has been in the morning. Small yellow bass and some crappie are being caught on minnows fished out from the Lynne Lorenzen boat ramp in the little lake. Little Wall Lake Northwest Ice thickness is 6 to 11 inches. Stay away from the south end of the lake where there is open water and unsafe ice. Fishing has slowed but still catching some crappies, bluegills, and yellow bass. 02/16 08:58

Silver Lake (Worth) Northwest Yellow perch 3 to 10 inches are biting on small jigs tipped with a wax worms. Silver Lake is undergoing a lake renovation project this winter. The fishing regulations have been relaxed. Anglers with a valid fishing license may take fish by any means except dynamite, poison, electroshocking, or any stupefying substances. The daily bag and minimum length restrictions are lifted 02/16 08:58

Storm Lake (incl Little Storm Lake) Northwest There are pockets of open water and many seams throughout the lake. Ice conditions remain variable. Check the ice frequently if fishing on Storm Lake. Special walleye regulations at Storm Lake are 3 walleye per day, all fish between 17 and 22 inches must be released, and only one walleye over 22 inches may be kept. 02/16 10:34
Storm Lake (incl Little Storm Lake) Northwest Walleye - Fair: Anglers are catching a good number of walleye mostly in 5 FOW. Many of the fish are 11 to 14 inches, but some are in the 15 to 16.5 inch range. Deadsticking has been working. Also try a super duper tipped with a minnow head. 02/16 10:34
