Hands-on displays and interactive components will engage visitors in learning about the prairie landscape and native plant species. Area residents are also invited to become personally involved in the preservation and restoration of the prairie ecosystem through volunteer activities at the Mines of Spain. The Mines of Spain has over 300 acres of tallgrass prairie found throughout the park. The tallgrass prairie, once covering over 97% of Iowa now has less than 1% in existence.
The Mines of Spain offers a great opportunity to explore the prairie and discover the various plants and animals that call it home. The traveling exhibit will provide information on how the prairie is constructed and what lies within. Start your prairie experience at the EB Lyons Center. While at the center, take time to explore the other exhibits, live animal displays or one of the 10 foot trails in the park. The exhibit will be only display for only a short time so visit often before it is gone.
