Backbone State Park - Delaware County
  • Road Resurfacing Project: The 16 cabins will not be accepting reservations from March 1, 2022 - February 28, 2023. The Beach Shelter will not be accepting reservations from May 1, 2022 - October 15, 2022. The Beach Lodge we are not accepting reservations from May 1, 2022 - October 15, 2022. The concession will be closed while the cabins are closed from March 1, 2022 - February 28, 2023.   • Backbone State Park will be closed to the general public December 4th and 5th 2021, due to an antlerless controlled deer hunt. Hunters possessing Backbone antlerless controlled hunt deer tags will be allowed to access Backbone State Park except in areas that are closed to hunting. Cabin Renters will be allowed to access areas that are closed to the park hunt in the cabin, beach and park shop area.

Big Creek State Park - Polk County
  • Park staff have started to winterize modern restrooms throughout the park. The restroom facilities at the Beach, West Boat Ramp, and Cadet shelter will remain open, weather permitting, until October 15th, 2021. The four pit toilets will remain open year round. (Posted on 10/1/21)
  • The Big Creek Snowmobile Trail is closed for use beginning March 15th to January 10th. On January 11th, the trail will open and there must be measurable snow, 1/10 of an inch, for allowable use, as described in the Code of Iowa Chapter 321G. The trail is a one-way trail, with traffic traveling in a clockwise location. Please obey all installed signage along the trail. (Posted 10/4/21)
  • Beginning September 20th, 2021, the North access lane at the beach will be closed due to a construction project taking place. This is from NW Big Creek Dr. to the Marina Boat Ramp, which includes the boat ramp road. Park visitors will need to use the South Beach access lane to able to use the beach area and Marina boat ramp during this project. Please contact the Park Office with any questions or concerns. Black Hawk State Park - Sac County
  • Shower building will be closing on October 18, 2021. It will re-open in April 2022.
Brushy Creek State Recreation Area - Webster County
  • Restroom and shower buildings in the park will be closed for the season October 18, 2021. Weather permitting, they will reopen April 15, 2022 Camping remains available in the off-season with pit vault toilets in each of the 3 campgrounds; water hydrants and electricity also remain on. For camping during the winter months please contact the park office in advance for information on site accessibility. Camping stays remain limited to 14 days.

Green Valley State Park - Union County
  • Modern restroom/shower buildings will be closed as of 10/18/21. Water hydrants will remain on throughout the campground and park until temperatures get below freezing. The dump station will remain open. Electricity will be available throughout the campground. A pit latrine will remain open at the North end of the campground.   • Green Valley State Park Annual Park Hunt: Green Valley State Park will be closed for camping and general use of the park and lake beginning 10:30 pm November 12th through 4:00 am November 15th for the 2021 Green Valley State Park Special Antlerless Deer Hunt. Only persons with a Green Valley Special Antlerless Season Deer License will be permitted in Green Valley during this time. Applications for the special hunt can be found on the Green Valley State Park Iowa DNR webpage or by contacting the park directly by phone at 641-782-5131 or email at Green_Valley@dnr.iowa.gov. Applications will be accepted September 1st through October 15th. The hunt is muzzleloader only. Only 25 applicants will be chosen, and must be Iowa residents. Lake Ahquabi State Park - Warren County
  • Park Renovation Projects: The drawdown of the lake started in mid July of 2021. Due to the lake level going down, the beach will be closed starting on Sunday, July 25 for the remainder of the recreation season and in 2022 unless otherwise posted. The concessionaire is also closed. The lodge and shelter will be available in 2021, but the water level will be very low in August and September due to the lake restoration project. In 2022, the campground, shelter, and lodge will be closed due to renovation. (Updated July 21, 2021)
Lake Anita State Park - Cass County
  • Oct. 11, 2021. The current plan is to shut down all modern shower and restroom buildings on Monday October 25th. This is dependent on the weather. This message will be updated if those plans change.
Lake Keomah State Park - Mahaska County
  • All Park Facilities will be closing October 16th for the end of the recreational season. They will remain closed until the spring of 2022. Pit latrines and frost free hydrants will still be available. Updated: 10/8/2021
Lake Macbride State Park - Johnson County
  • ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE Beginning Tuesday, September 7, 2021, the one-way road leading to the Main Boat Ramp, Main Lodge and Beach will be closed to vehicle traffic for a road reconstruction project. This will not affect access to the modern campground, the Coralville Boat Ramp or the dam and spillway area. All other boat ramps and shelters will be available as normal. Please make plans accordingly.
Lake Wapello State Park - Davis County

Ledges State Park - Boone County
  • Modern restroom and shower facilities throughout Ledges State Park will CLOSE for the winter season on Monday, October 18, 2021. Portable toilets will be available for use in front of each campground restroom building from October 18th until the end of November. From December 1 to March 15, a pit vault latrine is open and located just west of the campground entrance. Campground water hydrants, including those at the RV dump station, will remain ON until a forecast hard freeze occurs, then they will be shut down ahead of those freezing temperatures for the remainder of the winter. A frost-free water hydrant will remain ON at the campground entrance year round. Electricity will remain ON throughout the winter to those campsites equipped with hook-ups. Lewis and Clark State Park - Monona County
  • On October 18th 2021 the modern facilities will be closed for the winter season. Water will be shut off throughout the park, including the water hydrants throughout the campground (including full-hookup sites). The shower building and beach house will be closed to the public. Pit toilets will be open throughout the park. The dump station is open, but will not have water to wash out tanks. (Posted 10/6/21)
  • 2021 Lewis and Clark Visitor Center: The visitor center will be open during business hours as staffing allows beginning September 18, 2021 through May 1, 2022. Please call 712-423-2829 prior to arrival to confirm hours or to schedule a tour. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available. (Posted September 17, 2021)
  • 2021 Campground Changes: The previous campsites 1 - 31 have been eliminated in the campground. The previous site 32 is now site 1 and all campsites were renumbered. Please take notice of this change when making your 2021 camping reservations. (Posted January 14, 2021).
Maquoketa Caves State Park - Jackson County
  • Winter Closures: The Caves are closed for bat hibernation you can still walk trails and view the caves but you may not enter or go through them. The modern bathrooms have also been closed for the season and the caves and bathrooms will reopen on April 15th 2022. (Posted10/15/21)
  • 2021 Campground Changes: The campground is 100% reservable. Same day reservations will be accepted from April 1 - November 30 and until 9 pm on the day of arrival. A reservation is required. The campground will be closed December 1, 2021 - February 28, 2022. (Updated October 8, 2021)
Palisades-Kepler State Park - Linn County
  • Park re-opens after August 10, 2020 Derecho: On April 23, 2021 the park re-opened after several months of work to remove damaged trees, downed limbs, and clearing debris. Reservations are being accepted for everything except for the lodge, which has extensive roof damage. The lodge will be repaired in the summer of 2021. (Posted April 21, 2021)
Pikes Peak State Park - Clayton County
  • The campground, shelter and parking area will be closed for walk-ins and not accepting reservations for the January 1,2022 - October 31, 2022 due to renovations. (Posted 9/28/2021)

Pine Lake State Park - Hardin County
  • Upper Boat Ramp Closure: The boat ramp on Upper Pine Lake is closed until further notice. The boat ramp on Lower Pine Lake will not be impacted by this closure. Questions may be directed to the park office at 641-858-5832 or pine_lake@dnr.iowa.gov. (Updated 10/11/2021)
  • Off-season Amenities: The campground at Pine Lake State Park is open year-round and electricity remains on throughout the winter. Modern restrooms and showers in the campground will remain open until October 15th. Water from frost-free hydrants will remain on in the campground until mid-November as weather allows. A vault toilet is available for off-season use South of the campground at the Upper Pine Lake boat ramp. Other modern restrooms throughout the park will remain open until October 15th.   • Campground Reopening: The campground at Pine Lake State Park has re-opened after being closed for renovations since August or 2020. Campers making reservations at Pine Lake should be aware that some campsites have been removed in order to increase usable space for the remaining campsites. This has resulted in changes to campsite numbers, and some campsites that were once first-come, first-served may now be reservable and vice-versa. Campers wishing to reserve sites in a specific area of the campground should consult the updated campground map prior to making a reservation. Also be aware that staff continue to remove trees in the campground due to emerald ash borer, and site photos may not reflect those changes at this time. Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area - Linn County

Stone State Park - Woodbury County
  • Modern facilities are closed for the winter season. The shower building and Ricketts Glenn bathroom will be closed to the public. Pit toilets will be open throughout the park. (Posted 10/15/21)
Union Grove State Park - Tama County
  • The modern restroom/shower building in the campground will be closed on Monday, October 18th for the season. Water hydrants and electricity for the campsites will remain on and available to use. Pit vault restrooms are available in the campground year round. Modern facilities will reopen mid-late April 2022.
Viking Lake State Park - Montgomery County
  • The lake level is currently down approximately 7 feet. Lake levels are solely dependent on rainfall to reach normal levels. Boating and swimming activities are limited and you should call the Park Office for further details. (Posted 5-4-21)

Wildcat Den State Park - Muscatine County
  • A deer management archery hunt is being held at Wildcat Den from October 1st, 2021 to January 10th, 2022. The park is still open to normal visitation and hours during this time.
  • The Pine Creek Grist Mill will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 4:30PM through mid October. The campground, hiking trails, Mill restroom, and pit latrines are all open and water hydrants are turned on. Wilson Island State Recreation Area - Pottawattamie County
