New Training Workshop Focuses on Bottom Line for Industrial Stormwater

Industrial and commercial facilities with "stormwater discharge associated with industrial activity" are required to obtain NPDES permits, known as General Permits #1 and #3.  A new training opportunity has been developed to help those facilities understand their permitting requirements, develop pollution prevention plans, and implement best management practices with the goal of staying in compliance.

Hunter Education Classroom courses are offered by knowledgeable and certified volunteer instructors and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers. Classroom courses are typically 12-15 hours in length and are held over 2 to 3 sessions (days). In order to receive certification, a student must attend all sessions and pass the final exam.

Since our last training workshop, representatives from manufacturing, grain processing, and utilities worked together with the DNR to simply the Title V application process. Women can still answer their “call of the wild” by registering for the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop Sept. 18-20 at the Springbrook Conservation Education Center in Guthrie County. Women thinking about participating are encouraged to sign up now. After Sept. 4, the cost of the workshop increases from $150 to $180.
