WEST DES MOINES – City officials are capturing and diverting wastewater from a sewer pipe discharge near Jordan Creek and Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines. The creek runs along the north side of E. P. True Parkway before entering Southwoods Park.

The leakage was discovered about 4 p.m. Wednesday and initially estimated at 10 gallons per minute. City staff stopped the discharge to the creek by rerouting wastewater through a new pipe shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The city is investigating the cause of the sewer failure and plans to complete repairs today.

The DNR is asking residents to keep children and pets away from the stream for at least 48 hours after repairs are completed.

DNR will continue to monitor the situation. No dead fish or aquatic animals were found below the discharge.
