The Iowa Department of Natural Resources was notified of a fish kill in McLoud Run in Cedar Rapids March 30.

DNR staff from the Fisheries Bureau and Environmental Services & Compliance Bureau responded to a fish kill as a result of a water main break in the city that morning that discharged chlorinated drinking water into a storm sewer and eventually into McLoud Run.

DNR staff tested water at several locations and found chlorine in the discharge and in McLoud Run downstream of the storm sewer outlet. Analysis of the samples found no presence of chlorine upstream of the storm sewer outlet influence.

The issue does not appear to be ongoing, however, people may notice dead fish.
