DNR to host tour of Fort Atkinson Preserve historic fort repairs

FORT ATKINSON-- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host a public walking tour on May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Fort Atkinson State Preserve​, 303 2nd Street, ​ Fort Atkinson. The tour will allow participants to observe progress of the current repair project impacting several of the historic structures at the preserve. The tour will be led by DNR Field Engineer Ken Howe. The event will be held rain or shine.

FORT ATKINSON -- Fort Atkinson State Preserve in Winneshiek County is currently closed to visitors as crews begin work to repair and stabilize the 1840s-era fort structures. The closure will continue until the project is complete later this summer.

FORT ATKINSON-- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host an open house on March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Fort Atkinson State Preserve​, 303 2nd Street, ​Fort Atkinson, to discuss upcoming repairs to several of the historic structures at the preserve. The open house will begin with a short presentation, with DNR staff on hand to answer questions. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Fort Atkinson Community Center​ at 303 3rd Street NW, Fort Atkinson.
