DNR to host tour of Fort Atkinson Preserve historic fort repairs

FORT ATKINSON-- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host a public walking tour on May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Fort Atkinson State Preserve​, 303 2nd Street, ​ Fort Atkinson. The tour will allow participants to observe progress of the current repair project impacting several of the historic structures at the preserve. The tour will be led by DNR Field Engineer Ken Howe. The event will be held rain or shine.

An estimated 2,300 students from more than 140 schools from across Iowa will be in the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center and the 4H Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on March 1-3, to participate in the 18th National Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament. This is the largest youth archery tournament in Iowa.

An estimated 2,200 students from more than 125 schools from across Iowa will be in the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center (Bullseye) and the 4H Building (3D) at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines March 4-5, to participate in the 17th National Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament. This is the largest youth archery tournament in Iowa.

The 2022 Iowa Archery in the Schools Program season culminated with the state tournament March 5-6 at the at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, where nearly 1,800 archers competed for scholarships and awards in bullseye targets and 660 archers competed for scholarships and awards 3D targets.

Nearly 2,000 archers from more than 100 Iowa schools participated in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Virtual State Tournament in Iowa. This year a virtual state format was used to allow a large number of participants to compete. The tournament season ran December 1 to February 20 and saw 3,940 archers compete in at least one event.

Nearly 2,000 archers from more than 120 Iowa schools participated in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state tournament March 7-8, in Des Moines. For the season, more than 4,000 archers participated in Iowa's National Archery in the Schools After-School League Program. The season ran from December 1, 2019 - February 22, 2020.

Anamosa’s David Machart became Iowa’s top scholastic archer during the 2016 National Archery in the Schools Program State Championship March 4-5. Machart won the 3D target and the bullseye target competition with identical near perfect scores of 299 out of 300.
