The Mississippi River Monitoring Station is located in Bellevue, Iowa, on Pool 13 of the Mississippi River. The fisheries team consists of a biologist, Dave Bierman and three technicians, Mel Bowler (fisheries), Travis Kueter (water quality), and Josh Petersen (aquatic vegetation) . This team conducts annual monitoring of fisheries, water quality, and aquatic vegetation in Pool 13 of the Mississippi River (from Bellevue to Clinton, IA).

Some of the activities undertaken by this management team include:
- conducts water quality monitoring of local Mississippi River tributaries
- monitoring is part of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program, which is a partnership between the US Army Corps of Engineers, US Geological Survey, and the states of Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Missouri
- monitors local Mississippi River environmental restoration projects (i.e., backwater dredging) to evaluate the ecological response of these projects
- enhances the scientific understanding of the Upper Mississippi River ecosystem
- collaborates with federal partners and neighboring states on Mississippi River management and potential habitat restoration projects
- assists other Mississippi River teams with monitoring plans and data collection efforts
