District-Wide Trout Stream Fishing Report

Terrestrial patterns such as Hoppers, Ants, Beetles and especially Crickets have recently been effective and have taken some particularly big Browns. #18 Baetis patterns have been the predominant mayfly hatch mornings and evenings. #18 Wet Fly and Emerger patterns have also been excellent choices. Nymphing small midges or fishing bright streamers has been good in stained water. For the spin fisher, try using an 1/8 oz jig tipped with a light colored twister or a #5 shad rap.

Some limitations may apply for young children and pregnant women. Here’s a Fish Consumption Fact Sheet from the Iowa DNR and the Iowa Dept. of Public Health for more information.
