Osceola, Iowa - State Conservation Officer Michael Miller was on routine patrol late Friday morning when he saw two men setting up an ice fishing shelter on West Lake Osceola, in southern Iowa.

SPIRIT LAKE – The walleye fishing season on Spirit, East and West Okoboji lakes is open through February 14, 2017. After that date it will be closed and reopens again on May 6, 2017. These are the only Iowa lakes that have a closed season for walleye.

DES MOINES – The DNR received two reports of wastewater discharges this morning. An ongoing wastewater discharge is occurring in the city of Lake City in Calhoun County. A second wastewater discharge in DeWitt, Clinton County, stopped.

Storm Lake – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) responded to a bypass at the Tyson Fresh Meats pork plant on October 8, 2016.  The bypass occurred when a lift station pump failed and caused a power failure at two lift stations.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will begin a fish renovation at Three-Mile Lake in Union County on Sep. 20th.  DNR staff will treat the watershed streams on Sept. 20-21 with Prentox® PrenfishTM, a plant-based fish toxicant commonly known as Rotenone to eradicate the current fish population, and the lake on Sept. 22nd.

Boaters using the Des Moines River below the wastewater treatment plant on the southeast side of Des Moines should be aware that due to lower flows coming out of Saylorville Reservoir, two dredge pipes running from a nearby rock quarry to Easter Lake are near the water’s surface.

Road paving construction will begin next week at Lost Grove Lake located east of Eldridge.  The south entrance road leading to Backcast Bay Shoreline Access Area (located near the corner of 250th Street and 230th Avenue) will close on June 6 and the entrance road leading to the Old Red Barn Boat Ramp (formerly the middle boat ramp; also located near the corner of 250th Street and 230th  Avenue) will close on June 8.
