Van Meter, Iowa - Contractors will begin removing invasive plants and other brush at two areas at Badger Creek State Recreation Area in Madison County this fall as part of a multiyear project to convert the area to native prairie.

The work will take place on the area between 120th Street and the south arm of Badger Creek Lake and on the far west end of the lake south of 110th Street. A bulldozer will remove and pile an estimated 13 acres of bush honeysuckle at 10 locations on the two areas.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has placed signs with maps around the area urging deer hunters to remove treestands from the construction zones.

For more information about the project, contact the DNR’s Grand River Wildlife Unit at 641-783-2166.
