Fishing Forecast

The fishery in Cocklin Fish Farm was set back by summer kill in 2014. Low dissolved oxygen levels in August caused the kill that eliminated a portion of the fish population. Some fish did survive as confirmed by an electrofishing survey in September. That survey included 7 inch bluegill, 9 inch black crappie, largemouth bass from 10 to 15 inches, and a few channel catfish. Cocklin's will support some fishing in 2015. Restocking the lake will not be necesary but it will take time to build back numbers.(2015)

Some limitations may apply for young children and pregnant women. Here’s a Fish Consumption Fact Sheet from the Iowa DNR and the Iowa Dept. of Public Health for more information.
