Angling has picked up on the interior rivers as they recede. There have been reports of anglers catching crappie and bluegill on the surrounding Black Hawk County area lakes. Trout streams remain in excellent condition and the stocking is fully underway. For further information contact your local bait shops for the most recent information.
Anglers have been catching some crappie on Big Woods Lake as water temperatures increase.
Black Crappie - Good: Try casting and retrieving colored 1/32 ounce jigs for some good crappie action.

Big Woods Lake provides a good option for fishing in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo metro area. The lake has good shoreline and boat access and the fishery currently provides opportunities for bluegill, black crappie, channel catfish, largemouth bass and northern pike.(2020)
