Hawthorn is home to one of Iowa's most outstanding largemouth bass fisheries. Tremendous numbers of 17 to 20 inch fish are available. Bluegill angling continues to improve and surveys in fall 2015 indicate that fish over 8 inches in length are available. Channel catfish are abundant and fish over 4 lbs are already available. Crappie up to 9 inches are available. Muskellunge are available with excellent numbers of fish up to 40 inches in length present.(2016)
