DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting an informal stakeholder meeting on March 3, regarding the proposed five-year renewals of NPDES General Permits #5, #6, and #7 (GPs #5-7). The purpose of this meeting is to accept comments and answer questions on possible changes to the GPs. The DNR is specifically seeking comments on the clarity, feasibility, and potential impact of the proposed changes. Formal rulemaking to renew GPs #5-7 is expected to begin in mid 2026.

GP #5 covers wastewater from mining and processing facilities, GP #6 covers wastewater from water well construction and services, and GP #7 covers pesticide residues mainly from aquatic pesticides applied in or over water. All three of the general permits will expire on June 30, 2028.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 3 at 11:00 am. The meeting is open to the public and will be held virtually via Google Meet.

The proposed changes may be viewed online at the GP5, GP6, and GP7 webpages:
