DES MOINES — As another busy camping season winds down, Iowa DNR park and forest staff are preparing campgrounds for the first freezing temperatures of the fall.

Facilities will begin the winterizing process in mid-October. Depending on the location, modifications may include turning off water systems, shutting down dump stations and closing shower houses. Campers can check water availability and facility updates by visiting the DNR’s Alerts and Closures web page at www.iowadnr.gov/stateparks.

Campsite fees will automatically drop to off-season rates starting Friday, October 16. While some campgrounds remain open through the colder months, others close completely for the off-season. Campers are reminded to book their spots in advance through the reservation system.

The DNR encourages campers to check individual park reservation pages or contact park staff directly with specific operational questions. To view availability or book a stay, visit  https://iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com/.
