DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Solid Waste Alternatives Program (SWAP) is accepting applications for the next round of funding.
SWAP is an existing program that works to reduce the amount of solid waste generated and landfilled in Iowa. Through a competitive process, financial assistance is available for a variety of projects, including source reduction, recycling, composting and education regarding waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.
Local governments, as well as public and private organizations and individuals, are encouraged to apply for the program. This funding presents an excellent opportunity to enhance environmental initiatives through items such as:
- Waste reduction equipment and its installation, which can help minimize waste generation
- Recycling collection, processing, or hauling equipment (including installation) to improve recycling efficiency
- Development, printing, and distribution of educational materials to raise awareness and promote best practices
By utilizing these resources, applicants can play a vital role in promoting sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
