LEON, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host a public meeting to discuss a limited, archery-only antlerless deer hunt in Nine Eagles State Park, in Decatur County.

The meeting is scheduled for May 14, at the ISU Extension office, 909 W. First Street, in Leon, beginning at 6 p.m.

The DNR is proposing to allow bowhunters access to select areas of the state park, after the opening of the statewide archery season. The number of state park tags will be limited and only for antlerless deer. Hunters may purchase more than one tag until the quota is filled.

The Iowa DNR employs management hunts in select locations around the state, including other state parks, to reduce or maintain local deer numbers.

The meeting is open to the public.
