DECORAH, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting public meetings this spring on proposed nonresident small game season options under consideration for the 2027 small game hunting seasons.

Small game includes pheasants, quail, partridge, doves, rabbits and squirrels.

Locally, the Iowa DNR will be at the Franklin W. Olin Building, Room 102, Luther College, 700 College Drive, next to the Prues Library, in Decorah, at 6 p.m., on May 21. The meeting is open to the public.

β€œWe’ve been in discussion with our hunters, as part of the 2025 and 2026 winter public meetings, who indicated their support for a nonresident season structure that limits conflicts during peak activity in the fall,” said Todd Bishop, chief of the Iowa DNR’s Wildlife Bureau.

There are similar nonresident season structures in place in South Dakota and in North Dakota. The Iowa DNR is planning to present a draft rule at the August Natural Resource Commission meeting.

The Iowa DNR will accept public comments in the fall as part of the rule making process.
