DES MOINES – The DNR Water Quality Bureau has the following draft water use permits posted for public review. Water use permits regulate how Iowa’s water resources are allocated to ensure facilities use water efficiently and responsibly, at rates and quantities consistent with permit conditions.

As part of the permit review process, the public has the right, and is encouraged, to comment on draft water use permits. The Upper Iowa Resort, LLC, requests a permit modification to increase the annual withdrawal of water from one flowing artesian Cambrian (below St. Lawrence) well, approximately 450 feet deep, located on land described as the SE ¼ of the NE ¼ of Section 02, T99N, R06W, Allamakee County, Iowa, in the maximum quantity of 26.0 million gallons per year at a maximum rate of 50 gallons per minute throughout each year for recreational, drinking-water, and other resort campground-related purposes for Upper Iowa Resort, located on the south side of the Upper Iowa River, in the NE ¼ of Section 02, T99N, R06W, Allamakee County, Iowa.

The Department has determined that this use of water conforms to the relevant criteria (Iowa Code Chapter 455B and Iowa Administrative Code 567) and recommends the permit be granted.

Curtis Cattle Company requests a new water use permit (No. 10433), to withdraw water from one intake on the Cedar River, located in the NW ¼ of Section 2, T80N, R4W, Cedar County, Iowa, in the maximum quantity of 49.5 acre-feet per year, at a maximum rate of 700 gallons per minute during the period April 1 to October 31 of each year for irrigation of up to 49.5 acres of specialty crops on said land.

The Department has determined that this use of water conforms to the relevant criteria (Iowa Code Chapter 455B and Iowa Administrative Code 567) and recommends the permit be granted.
