DES MOINES – The DNR Water Quality Bureau has the following draft water use permits posted for public review. Water use permits regulate how Iowa’s water resources are allocated to ensure facilities use water efficiently and responsibly, at rates and quantities consistent with permit conditions.

As part of the permit review process, the public has the right, and is encouraged, to comment on draft water use permits. Please submit any comments to wateruse@dnr.iowa.gov by 4:30 p.m. on the last day of the comment period.

Osceola County

Sunrise Farms Inc (Philip Sonstegard), 660 White Ave., Harris, IA 51345

Phillip O. Sonstegard, on behalf of Sunrise Farms Inc., requests a permit authorizing withdrawal of water from four existing and one proposed Ocheyedan River alluvial aquifer wells, each approximately 50 feet deep and located on land generally described as the W ½ of the NW ¼ of Section 9 and the NE ¼ of the SE ¼ of Section 8, T98N, R39W, Osceola County, Iowa, in the maximum quantity of 265 million gallons per year at a maximum rate of 1,530 gallons per minute throughout each year to operate an egg production and processing facility, known locally as Sunrise Farms, Inc., on land generally described as NW ¼ of Section 34, T99N, R39W, Osceola County.

The only change to the existing permit is the addition of a new Ocheyedan River alluvial well, as described above.

The Department has determined that these uses of water conform to the relevant criteria (Iowa Code Chapter 455B and Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 567) and recommends the permits be granted.

Dubuque County

River City Stone (Weber Quarry), 920 10th Ave North, Onalaska, WI 54650

River City Stone (Weber Quarry) requests to modify an existing water use permit (No. 9834-R1), authorizing to withdraw water from an existing quarry known locally as the Weber Quarry, located on land generally described as the NE ¼ of the NE ¼ of Section 32, T89N, R02E, Dubuque County, Iowa, in the maximum quantity of 600 million gallons per year at a maximum rate of 2000 gallons per minute throughout each year for general dewatering and material production purposes at the Weber Quarry on said land and property. The current permit allows for a maximum quantity of 250 million gallons per year.

The Department has determined that this use of water conforms to the relevant criteria (Iowa Code Chapter 455B and Iowa Administrative Code 567) and recommends the permit be granted.

Peter Alexander requests a permit authorizing withdrawal of water from one new Missouri River alluvial aquifer well, each approximately 105 feet deep, located on land generally described as Section 30 and Section 31, T83N, R45W, all in Monona County, Iowa, in the maximum quantity of 140 acre-feet per year at a maximum pumping rate of 800 gallons per minute during the period April 1 to September 30 of each year for irrigation of up to 140 acres of general farm crops, located on said land.

The Department has determined that this use of water conforms to the relevant criteria (Iowa Code Chapter 455B and Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 567) and recommends the permit be granted.
