The Water Supply Permit Writer (Environmental Specialist) within the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Water Quality Bureau plays a vital role in protecting Iowa’s public drinking water systems and safeguarding public health. Located at the 6200 Park Ave facility in Des Moines, Iowa, this full-time position administers the provisions of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) under state delegation pursuant to the Code of Iowa Chapter 455B and Iowa Administrative Code Chapters 567-40, 41, 43, & 44. The primary responsibilities of this position center on drafting, reviewing, issuing, modifying, and amending operation permits for Public Water Supplies (PWSs).
