[Sept 4] Position: Environmental Specialist Senior

Are you looking for a senior environmental role working with contaminated sites? Are you excited about the possibility of serving the citizens of the State of Iowa? If so, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has a career job vacancy for an Environmental Specialist Senior in the Solid Waste and Contaminated Sites Section of the Land Quality Bureau. This important position provides statewide oversight as the lead worker role for determining procedures and criteria the department will use to identify parties responsible for releases of hazardous substances or pollutants, and cleanup actions and direction necessary for the protection of groundwater and soils, within the state authority of Iowa Code Chapter 567 - 133.

This senior role will also serve as the lead worker for sites in the voluntary cleanup program, state-lead sites in coordination with federal Comprehensive Environmental Response and Compensation Liability Act (CERCLA) authority, and coordination of remedial actions at federal defense sites.The position will include conducting or assigning site reviews to appropriate staff, directing responsible parties for response actions, monitoring and reporting to the supervisor on the status of sites, and ensuring that site activities occur timely for sites assigned to both this position, as well as to other staff. The position will identify problems or concerns in the program and propose solutions to the section supervisor, and work to implement them.

Candidates must possess the ability to operate independently with indirect supervision under general coordination and program guidelines.

The Department of Natural Resources has a job vacancy for an Environmental Specialist Senior at the Environmental Services Division - Field Office #4 located in Atlantic, Iowa. This is a lead worker position charged with promoting compliance with environmental regulations within southwest Iowa, through data review and management, routine and advanced compliance inspections, technical compliance assistance, complaint investigation and resolution, response to spills of hazardous materials, and preparation of compliance reports and enforcement documents. This position is frequently working in the field on sometimes difficult terrain and in all weather conditions.

[Aug 15] Position: Prairie Specialist - Temporary

The DNR is seeking to hire a temporary employee to be stationed at the Prairie Resource Center. The primary responsibilities of the Temporary Worker at the Iowa DNR Prairie Resource Center are to assist the team with the production of local ecotype native grass and wildflower seed for Iowa’s public lands. The person in this position must possess strong organization and communication skills and be able to express ideas orally and in writing. The candidate must possess identification skills of plants to lead others in the propagation, maintenance, and harvest of prairie species. The person must be a leader capable of leading groups of volunteers, inmate offenders, and other employees.

Candidates must possess the ability to operate independently with indirect supervision under general coordination and program guidelines.
