[Dec 15] Position: Seasonal Water Patrol Officer- Law Enforcement (LE) Bureau

The temporary, summer employees of the Iowa DNR LE Bureau are positions of high responsibility. Diverse duties include checking for compliance with Iowa's navigation and fishing regulations and helping to ensure a safe recreational environment for the public. Water Patrol Officers also provide public assistance and safety education through personal contacts and by participating in DNR's educational programs. Water Patrol Officers are often the first to respond to the scene of emergencies such as accidents, missing persons or other calls for assistance.

[Dec 8] Position: Natural Resources Tech 2 - Wildlife Bureau

The Wildlife Bureau has an opening for a Natural Resources Technician 2 in Lucas County. This position will work with the NRCS Technical Staff in Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Keokuk, and Wapello counties to provide assistance to private landowners to voluntarily plan and implement forestry conservation practices with an emphasis on providing forest health, water quality and wildlife habitat benefits. The staff will provide technical support to NRCS/SWCD field offices in designing forest restoration projects and management plans. Works with landowners to provide consultation on forest health issues and the establishment and management of forestry practices in accordance with available state and federal conservation programs and established best management practices and scientific principles.

Position: Natural Resources Tech 2 - Wildlife Bureau


[Dec 8] Position: Environmental Engineer

The Flood Plain and Dam Safety Section of the DNR provides a critical service to the state of Iowa in making sure that development and construction in Iowa's floodplains is conducted responsibly to reduce the risk of flooding damages. As a member of this team, this important position reviews a wide variety of proposed construction projects, including dams, bridges/culverts, streambank stabilization, and new buildings. These reviews consist of the use of various hydrologic and hydraulic references, modeling software, and tools to determine the effects of the proposed construction and if it meets the requirements of the floodplain development rules in the Iowa Administrative Code. Work may also include review of the geotechnical reports for dam designs, performing dam breach analysis for hazard class determinations, and performing flood routings through dams. Extensive calculations for some projects may be necessary.
