A June of 2022 electrofishing survey showed that Manteno has decent sized bluegills with fish in the 7 to 8 inch range. This lake also produces good quality largemouth bass fishing at times. The black crappies are 9 to 10-inches. Channel catfish are stocked to round out the fishery. The best fishing is either early in the spring or late in the fall. During the summer aquatic plants makes shore fishing difficult. (2022)

Iowa-Caught Fish Are Safe to Eat, In Almost All Cases

The vast majority of Iowa’s streams, rivers and lakes offer safe and high-quality fish that pose little or no threat to human health if consumed. Some limitations may apply for young children and pregnant women. Here’s a Fish Consumption Fact Sheet from the Iowa DNR and the Iowa Dept. of Public Health for more information. Here is a list of current fish consumption advisories for Iowa lakes and rivers.
