About the Park

Springbrook State Park is a quiet retreat in Guthrie County, encompassing 930 acres of rolling hills and mature timber. Many of the park’s structures were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s, creating a nostalgic setting for park visitors.

A multifamily cabin called the Sherburne House is perfect for large families or groups, and the lake is a popular destination for swimming and kayaking.

Plan Your Visit

  • Hike or bike 12 miles of trails at Springbrook, offering leisurely routes through timber and prairie areas or more challenging paths for the seasoned hiker or biker. Trails also lead to small ponds, the Middle Raccoon River and the park’s 17-acre lake. Snowmobiling is allowed on four miles of designated trails in the winter.
  • Fish for crappie, largemouth bass and bluegill at the 17-acre lake or in the Raccoon River. Three fishing jetties and two docks are available, and visitors can swim at the sandy beach area on the lake. Electric trolling motors are allowed on the lake, and a boat ramp near the south end of the park provides easy access to the Raccoon River.
  • Hunt at designated areas in the northeast and southwest portions of Springbrook. A controlled deer hunt is held periodically to assist in maintaining the deer herd.
  • Stay overnight in The Sherburne House, with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, two living rooms and a full kitchen. The cabin sleeps 10-14 people and offers scenic views of the area near the west side of the park. Camping is available at the large campground, which contains electric hookups, modern showers and restrooms, and a trailer dump station. Some campsites are ADA accessible. One-fourth of the campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis or advanced reservations can be made through the online reservation system for Springbrook State Park.
  • Reserve one of two open shelters for an outdoor gathering during your visit. The beach shelter contains modern restrooms and can be found near the lake, and the CCC shelter has a fireplace and is ADA accessible. Several picnic areas with tables, grills and water can be found throughout the park, and both shelters can be reserved through the online reservation system for Springbrook State Park.
