The coontail weed beds are starting to get tall and thick enough to attract some fish. REMEMBER: LOST GROVE LAKE HAS EURASIAN WATERMILFOIL SO BE SURE TO CLEAN ALL VEGETATION OFF YOUR BOAT AND TRAILER BEFORE LEAVING THE BOAT RAMP AREA. |
Largemouth Bass - Fair: Anglers are picking up bass up in the one to two pound size range in shallower water habitats but not many of the bigger bass seem to be interested in coming into the shallow waters to feed. |
Bluegill - Fair: There are still decent numbers of bluegills in 3 to 4 foot of water but many of them seemed to have retreated back out into a little deeper water again. |
Black Crappie - Slow: No sign of the crappies leaving the deeper open water to come in for their "autumn feed". Most are staying out in 10-12 foot depths in scattered smaller schools. |

Iowa-Caught Fish Are Safe to Eat, In Almost All Cases
The vast majority of Iowa’s streams, rivers and lakes offer safe and high-quality fish that pose little or no threat to human health if consumed. Some limitations may apply for young children and pregnant women. Here’s a Fish Consumption Fact Sheet from the Iowa DNR and the Iowa Dept. of Public Health for more information. Here is a list of current fish consumption advisories for Iowa lakes and rivers.
