Interior river water levels have fallen; reports are anglers have been catching some walleye. Lakes in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area have been slow to fair for panfish. Ice averages are around six inches; use extreme caution wherever one goes. Trout streams are in excellent condition. There have been no reports for South Prairie Lake but decent size bluegill are available in this Lake.

South Prairie Lake offers good fishing opportunities for black crappie, bluegill, channel catfish and largemouth bass in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo metro. Bluegills are of quality size with some over eight inches in length. Recent surveys show that most crappies are 6- to 8-inches. South Prairie offers excellent shoreline access, a floating fishing dock, and a hard-surfaced boat ramp.(2020)
