The Cody Shooting Complex is located at 30245 220th Avenue in Long Grove, IA, just west of McCausland, Iowa, off County Road F33 (300th St.). It is on 16.8 acres of primarily agricultural land with a small pond and wooded area on the property's eastern side. The Cody Shooting Complex, formerly known as DLS Gun Club, and associated property was donated to the Iowa DNR in 2016.

Renovations have taken place over the last two years, with Phase I of the construction now complete. The fully staffed facility will open to the public for recreational shooting opportunities starting Wednesday, December 11. Phase II of construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025, which will include the addition of an archery range, as well as a classroom and registration building. We expect that the final phase of construction will be completed by December 2026. Scott County Conservation will operate and maintain the facility in partnership with the Iowa DNR.

Roger Kean, Director of Scott County Conservation, explains, "The Scott County Conservation Board is extremely excited to partner with the Iowa DNR to open a much-needed and long-anticipated shooting range in our county. This is just one more example of our two agencies working together to offer this new amenity for the public to enjoy."

Please note that the existing Princeton Shooting Range, located in the Princeton Wildlife Management Area, permanently closed on December 2, 2024. Recreational shooting is no longer permitted in that area, as it will undergo a reclamation effort and will be restored for public access and hunting.
