Boater Education Home Study

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources offers a NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) approved Iowa Basic Boating Home study Course. This boater education material is learned by studying the information provided and taking 6 separate chapter quizzes for review. The student answers the 60 question exam provided by the Department and submits the answers on the exam answer sheet. The student submits the paperwork to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources along with the appropriate fee to receive the NASBLA approved Iowa education certificate. Boater education is mandatory for any person 12 - 17 years old, who will operate a motorboat over ten horsepower or personal watercraft (PWC).
