Opportunity for Public Comment on the Muscatine 1-hour SO2 Maintenance Plan

The DNR invites the public to provide comments on a draft plan to help redesignate the Muscatine area from nonattainment to attainment with the 1-hour sulfur dioxide (SO2) national ambient air quality standard. The DNR intends to submit the plan to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a revision to Iowa’s state implementation plan (SIP).

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved Iowa’s sulfur dioxide (SO2) attainment plan for Muscatine County. In collaboration with the DNR, facilities in the Muscatine area started reducing their SO2 emissions in 2015 to meet the federal health standard for SO2.

The Iowa Environmental Protection Commission approved the Clean Water SRF and Drinking Water SRF Intended Use Plan - Quarter 2 Update for fiscal year 2019. The Commission took the action on September 18, 2018 at their meeting in the Osborne Visitor Welcome Center in Elkader, IA.

Fall is almost here. That means harvest is coming and manure application season is around the corner. Late September marks six months since the online manure management plan (eMMP) application rolled out.
