DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Legal Services Bureau Chief Edmund J. Tormey was inducted into the 2017 Class of The American College of Environmental Lawyers last week at the College’s annual meeting in Charleston, SC.

Tormey was one of 20 other attorneys inducted in 2017. Each individual was selected for his/her distinguished experience and high standards in the practice of environmental law.

“We are extremely proud of the work that Ed has done for us at the DNR and the successes he has had and continues to have,” said Chuck Gipp, Director of the DNR. “Ed leads an outstanding team of dedicated professional attorneys who have handled some very high-profile cases that have had major impacts on our environment. Ed is very deserving of this prestigious induction.”

ACOEL President, James Bruen of Farella Braun + Martel LLP, stated, “The twenty lawyers elected to the College this year include top environmental lawyers in government service, academia, and private practice, drawn from across the country. These individuals, chosen by their peers, have earned this recognition based on achievements over a minimum 15-year period, during which they have led the field in diverse areas of environmental law and policy. The College is honored to have this distinguished class join its ranks.”

Tormey started working for the DNR in 2004. He is a 1990 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law. Ed is a native of Ottumwa and currently resides in Indianola with his family.

The American College of Environmental Lawyers is a professional association of distinguished lawyers who practice in the field of environmental law. Membership is by invitation and members are recognized by their peers as preeminent in their field.
