MAQUOKETA, IA -- Maquoketa Caves State Park will reopen for day use at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 28. The campground will remain closed until further notice. All campers with reservations through Sunday, July 31 have been notified and refunded.

 The Iowa Department of Natural Resources, in partnership with Des Moines Water Works, City of West Des Moines and the Friends of Walnut Woods State Park group, will hold a press conference for the grand opening of Purple Martin Lake Water Resource Area. This lake and recreational area will create many new opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to recreate and enjoy the outdoors and be close to West Des Moines and Des Moines.
