Faith Bruck with Logan-Magnolia High School is the 2018 recipient of the Brass Bluegill award from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Fish Iowa! program.In 2015, Logan-Magnolia Schools’ science teacher K.C. DES MOINES – Permanent ice shelters must be removed from all state-owned lands and waters by Feb. 20. Ice shelter owners are encouraged not to wait until the last minute to get their shelter off the ice. If a shelter falls through the ice, the owner is responsible for getting it out of the lake.

BONDURANT – A family trout fishing event will be held at Lake Petocka, in Bondurant, at noon on Feb. 10. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will stock 1,400 rainbow trout in the lake. Previously scheduled for Jan. 27, the stocking was postponed due to unsafe ice conditions.

The paddlefish fishing season is open from sunrise to sunset from Feb. 4 to April 30 on the Missouri and Big Sioux rivers. Anglers fishing for paddlefish must have a valid Iowa fishing license, along with a special paddlefish license and unused transportation tag(s).

Seventeen lakes across Iowa are gearing up to receive trout this fall. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will release between 1,000 to 2,000 rainbow trout at each location as part of its cool weather trout program that brings trout to areas that cannot support them during the summer months.
