Learn outdoor skills and make great friends at our Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshop at Honey Creek State Park Resort this spring | Iowa DNRThere's just about a month to go before the second annual Spring Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshop gets underway at Honey Creek Resort State Park, April 24-26,2015. Openings are still available for most classes, but hurry, registration is limited and fees increase after April 3. Visit for registration information and forms.

Here are a few things you might discover at this international outdoor skills workshop for women:

A new-found friend. BOW isn’t just about learning a new outdoor skill, it’s also about the camaraderie of others enjoying like experiences. It’s kind of like summer camp for grown-ups.

Rest and relaxation. While the days will be filled with plenty of outdoor activity, dirty hands and possibly sore muscles, your evenings are free to explore Iowa’s only resort state park. Sit outside and watch the sunset over Lake Rathbun with your favorite beverage. Hang out with friends at the fire ring. Enjoy the waterpark. Or just kick off your shoes and curl up in the comfort of a luxury bed in your beautiful hotel room.

Confidence. BOW classes are introductory-level, and class sizes are small. With top-notch instructors and plenty of hands-on activity, participants can feel confident enough to enjoy their new skill at home.

Delicious food. We aren’t slinging hash at this camp. Honey Creek’s Chef Bob is not only sharing his culinary expertise in a BOW cooking class, he oversees the delicious upscale menu prepared for the participants.

A turkey. Yup, we offer a turkey hunting class and our workshop is right in the midst of prime turkey habitat and turkey season. You might have to get up a little earlier than other classes, but it’s worth the opportunity to see or hear Iowa’s largest gamebird.

Something to share. Whether it's a new fishing story, a Dutch oven recipe or a new skill to try with someone back home, you are sure to take something with you to share. Maybe it’s an idea for a family vacation at Honey Creek Resort. Or simply the BOW experience with someone who might like to attend a future workshop.
