Contracts and tour on Environmental Protection agenda

DES MOINES—Contracts and a tour of Easter Lake watershed improvement project are the highlights of the Aug. 20 Environmental Protection Commission meeting in Des Moines.

The business meeting begins at 10 a.m. in Room 116 of the Iowa State Capitol, 1007 E. Grand Avenue. From 1 to 2:30 p.m., commissioners will meet at the Historic Bridge to tour improvements at Easter Lake on the southeast side of Des Moines. The tour is open to the public with access through the south entrance.

Commissioners will be asked to approve six contracts related to floodplain mapping efforts. Funding for the projects comes largely from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In other action, commissioners will be asked to approve updated fees for water use permits and two watershed improvement contracts.

The meeting is open to the public. There is no scheduled public participation. Written comments may be submitted up to one day before the meeting to Jerah Sheets at Jerah.Sheets@dnr.iowa.gov or to DNR, 502 E. Ninth St., Des Moines, IA 50319 up to one day prior to the business meeting.
