Beautiful fall weather has extended park visits and camping opportunities around the state for many outdoor enthusiasts. However, conditions in several areas are very dry increasing the potential for wildfires. Currently, 12 counties are under burn bans.

Specifics of each county ban are up to the local fire chief and may or may not affect use of common park visitor tools and amenities such as campfires, grills and tiki torches.  Park visitors are asked to check with the individual parks within the restricted counties regarding burn ban ordinances.

To see which counties are currently under a burn ban, visit the State Fire Marshall’s website at http://www.dps.state.ia.us/fm/main/burnbans/
