Doug and Ralph Palmquist named Conservationists of the Year.
The Montgomery County Soil and Water Conservation District has named Doug and Ralph
Palmquist as Conservationists of the Year. This award recognizes farmers in the county who
portray the greatest conservation ethic each year. The Palmquists, who own land in the
Viking Lake Watershed, have built several thousand feet of terrace, one grade stabilization
structure, and replaced around 20 acres of row crop with hay in order to reduce soil erosion.
They are also in the process of building another pond, 4 sediment basins, and thousands of feet of fence to exclude livestock from streams.
