The DNR is helping Iowans across the state improve our lakes and streams by supporting and working with watershed projects.
By making changes in how we manage both private and public land, we can reduce the amount of pollution
like sediment, nutrients and bacteria, reaching our water. The story featured below is just one of the many successes we've seen so far, and there's more work underway.
Upper Catfish Creek
The Upper Catfish Creek Watershed (UCCW) project started in January 2007 and has moved along swiftly.
The UCCW has a diversified watershed council which consists of: City of Dubuque,
East Central Intergovernmental Association, Dubuque County Conservation Board,
Catfish Creek Coalition, Sierra Club and landowners within the watershed.
The University of Dubuque Environmental Science students have become actively involved with the project as well.
Students are testing water quality within the watershed twice a month and are helping identify environmentally
sensitive areas.
