The DNR is helping Iowans across the state improve our lakes and streams by supporting and working with watershed projects.
By making changes in how we manage both private and public land, we can reduce the amount of pollution
like sediment, nutrients and bacteria, reaching our water. The highlights featured below are just some of the many successes we've seen so far, and there's more work underway.
Staff and Beaver Creek
Before Neil Shaffer became the project coordinator at Staff and Beaver Creeks, only three conservation practices
were installed in the watershed. In his first year as project coordinator, the project had 36 practices implemented and
this year there is over 50.
In 2006, there were 28 CRP practices installed including waterways, filter strips, wetland restorations and windbreaks.
5,000 feet of terraces were installed.
Two wetlands were developed with shallow water excavations.
More 65 acres of no-till were enrolled.
In 2007, there has been 37 CRP practices signed up.
More than 3,900 feet of terraces installed and several other owners and operators interested in new practices.
