DNR Watershed Planning Grants.

DNR Watershed Planning Grants help local groups passionate about improving water quality get started. Grant funds go towards developing a Watershed Management Plan, which identifies problems in the watershed and proposes solutions for better water quality. Making changes in the watershed, which is the land that drains to a lake, river or stream, can reduce pollution reaching our waters.

Watershed Planning Grant applications due by 4:30 p.m. April 1, 2010.

About the grants
DNR Watershed Planning Grants help local Iowa groups bring their community together to find the problems in their watershed, propose solutions and develop a plan to make those improvements in Iowa's impaired waters. With a completed Watershed Management Plan in-hand, groups can apply for DNR Watershed Implementation Grants and other funding to put the plan into action.

Take the first step: contact us.
The first step in applying for a DNR watershed grant is to contact your Basin Coordinator, who can talk with you about your group's vision for water quality and talk about the resources available to you, as well as answer your questions about the grant application process. Contact information for basin coordinators, watershed grant staff

For those looking for additional assistance with water monitoring and other planning issues, learn more about watershed development and planning assistance grants from the DNR and Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.

If you already have a completed Watershed Management Plan, consider applying for funds and assistance to put the plan into action with a DNR Watershed Implementation Grant.

DNR watershed grants are made possible by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, through funding provided in Section 319 of the federal Clean Water Act. The DNR uses the EPA grant funds to support its watershed improvement program and to fund grants for watershed improvement efforts throughout the state.
