Clear Lake Watershed Project

Clear Lake Success Story

The DNR is helping Iowans across the state improve our lakes and streams by supporting and working with watershed projects. By making changes in how we manage both private and public land, we can reduce the amount of pollution like sediment, nutrients and bacteria, reaching our water. The story featured below is just one of the many successes we've seen so far, and there's more work underway.

Restrooms, an informational kiosk and a small shelter are part of the restoration improvements at Clear Lake.

Clear Lake
The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has restored the Ventura Grade area, after raising $1.7 million in land purchases and public improvements with help from The Clear Lake Enhancement and Restoration Project, the DNR and REAP. The project purchased 26 acres of woodlands and wetland and 1,000 feet of shoreline.

Further north of the woods, a parking area was completed at the former Harbor Inn location to accommodate anglers and nature observers who use the fishing jetty. An infiltration bed was installed under the parking area to remove pollutants from the storm water run off before it reaches the lake.

Through private donations to the Iowa Natural Heritage Fundtaion and from REAP funds, a small shelter, restrooms and an informational kiosk explaining lake and marsh restoration improvements have been added.
