State Park Playground Improvements: The Department has purchased recycled rubber playground safety tiles to be installed at 23 playgrounds in 19 Iowa state parks. Playground installations are anticipated to be completed by the fall of 2008. Purchase and installation of the recycled rubber playground safety tiles brings the playgrounds into compliance with the American Disabilities Act and will help protect persons using the play equipment from injury due to falls.
A key component of these small improvement projects is that the playground tiles are manufactured in Iowa using crumb rubber derived from Iowa scrap tires. The Department will use these projects as an educational tool highlighting the benefits of recycling for children, parents and others visiting Iowa's state parks while improving access and safety for playground users.
