DES MOINES - Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) AmeriCorps members have been selected to receive a 2009 Governor's Volunteer Award for the outstanding contribution of volunteer services to the community.

DES MOINES - Two activities led by DNR AmeriCorps Members during AmeriCorps Week succeeded in showing what AmeriCorps is all about: getting things done and giving back to the community.

AmeriCorps Keepers of the Land
AmeriCorps is the national service program that provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with education awards in exchange for three months to one year of community engagement.
The DNR coordinates two AmeriCorps programs to further conserve and enhance Iowa's natural resources in cooperation with individuals and organizations. They are Green Iowa Energy Unit and Keepers of the Land. A separate grant funded Recovery AmeriCorps crew of 520 positions will start May 1, 2009 pending funding approval.
