Spill Response

The State of Iowa currently does not maintain Hazardous Material (Hazmat) Response Teams. If you have a spill or release or potential spill or release of a hazardous material or waste, petroleum product or waste, or other material that could cause a Hazardous Condition (*.pdf file), you should contact your local fire department. If a Hazmat Team (*.pdf file) is required for the incident the local fire department will contact the appropriate team. If you know an incident will require a professional response you may contact a private spill response contractor (*.pdf file). It is the responsibility of the responsible party to insure the timely and proper actions be taken to insure the safety of employees, the general public, and the environment.
