Coralville Dam Spill

The Emergency Response & Homeland Security Unit was formed to provide 24-hour technical assistance to local, state, and federal response agencies, regulated industries, and interested public. The primary purpose of the unit is to staff the 24-hour spill reporting hotline, maintain the Hazardous Spill Incident database, and provide 24-hour technical support to emergency responders at all levels. In support of these tasks the unit also;

  • serves as the Department of Natural Resource's Homeland Security Point of Contact,

  • serves on a variety of planning and regulatory groups,

  • provides technical support to rule making committees, other divisions within the Department of Natural Resources, and other state departments,

  • provides technical support to local government entities, public groups, and commercial and industrial parties, and

  • serves as a point of contact for the Department of Natural Resources for local, surrounding states, and federal environmental agencies.
