Spill Clean-up

The responsibility for an incident often does not end when the Hazmat Team (*.pdf file) leaves the site. Once the Hazardous Condition is stabilized the site needs to be returned as close to a pre-incident condition as practical.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will provide regulatory oversight to the responsible party to insure the spilled or released material is remediated to State of Iowa Clean-up Standards and the area is returned to as close to a pre-incident condition as practical. The department maintains a list of Emergency Response Contractors (*.pdf file) working in the State of Iowa, however the department does not have a contractor certification program.

The responsible party is ultimately responsible for insuring the necessary steps are taken to insure the proper and timely restoration of the site.
