Scott County to Host Trout Fishing Derby
Posted: March 9, 2010
DAVENPORT - Scott County's Lake of the Hills will be the site of an all-ages trout fishing derby on March 20. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will release 1,600 rainbow and 200 brook trout at 11 a.m.
The event is sponsored by the Scott County Conservation Board (CCB), the Iowa DNR and Gander Mountain. The Scott CCB will provide fishing seminars from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Staff from the Scott CCB and the Iowa DNR will be on hand throughout the event. Registration is not required. The fishing derby ends at 2 p.m.
The trout will be released at the boat ramp parking lot, gate 1. Participants who catch one of the 200 tagged fish will need to present a valid fishing license and trout fee to claim a prize.
Prizes for tagged fish caught after March 20 can be claimed by bringing the tag - not the fish - to the Scott CCB headquarters. The contest ends on April 30.
A list of fishing derby rules is available at
www.scottcountyiowa.com/conservation. Anglers should note that they will be restricted to one fishing rod with one hook or lure only.
Lake of the Hills is a 54-acre lake located in the 620-acre West Lake Park, in Davenport, that provides fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill and crappie. There is a 150 vehicle parking lot near the main boat ramp, and an additional 200 vehicle parking lot near the Beach House, which is a short walk from the ramp. Restroom facilities will be available in the form of Port-a-Johns.
